Round one applications for the federal government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund, significantly outstripped the nominal 8000-home quota and prompted calls for a larger allocation of funds.
Housing Australia is not commenting on the tender process but is unlikely to award all applications received. The federal government agency is expected to award projects based on its own criteria such as regional distribution, size, value for money and need.
The $2.9 billion programme to develop 40,00 social and affordable homes over the next five years opened in January with successful round one applicants expected to be announced mid-year.
Community Housing Providers and developers are now awaiting initial feedback from Housing Australia to provide indicators on the criteria for which projects are likely to receive funding and at what levels.
Although it is unknown when applications for the second round of funding are likely to open, we are continuing to work with developers and CHP's to put together suitable projects.
